Drag Me Down

Drag-me-down-One-directionIt’s been a long time since I’ve done a Song of the Moment post. But I’m finally back again with one, and to no one’s surprise (hopefully), my inspiration for this post is the new One Direction single.

Song: Drag Me Down
Artist: One Direction
Album: Drag Me Down – Single
Source: Bought on iTunes

Favorite Lyrics:
I’ve got fire for a heart
I’m not scared of the dark
You’ve never seen it look so easy
I got a river for a soul
And baby you’re a boat
Baby you’re my only reason

Drag Me Down is the first song One Direction has released since Zayn left the band earlier this year. But never fear, he gave his approval via Twitter:

Proud of my boys the new single is sick. Big love. 🙂 x

This song dropped just as I woke up the morning of my last day in Europe (the day I flew home). I listened to it on repeat in the airport and on both my flights. It’s catchy, has a great beat, and is a slightly different sound for One Direction: it’s a bit darker and more intense sounding than some of their other tunes. The lyrics are repetitive, but the boys switch up parts throughout so it’s never boring. Drag Me Down is unapologetic; I love it. And the guys look so happy in the cover art. Even better, the release was a complete surprise! The Drag Me Down music video was apparently shot a few days ago at the NASA Space Center in Houston, Texas. Needless to say, I am highly anticipating its premiere.

Steal My Girl

My new Song of the Moment… This one just released today!

Song: Steal My Girl
Artist: One Direction
Album: FOUR
Source: Bought on iTunes via FOUR (Deluxe Version) preorder

Favorite Lyrics:
She’s been my queen since we were sixteen
We want the same things, we dream the same dreams, alright, alright
I got it all cause she is the one
Her mom calls me love, her dad calls me son, alright, alright
I know, I know, I know for sure

I got up this morning for school and looked in the Purchased section of my iTunes library for One Direction’s newest single. I preordered their album and knew that Steal My Girl would download automatically today when it released. Alas, it didn’t release until I was in the middle of AP Psychology (not that I was checking or anything) and I listened to it for the first time after lunch. I kid you not, I almost cried in the middle of class when I heard it (we had a sub and were allowed to study). I wanted to dance and sing and laugh like a maniac because One Direction does that to me. I think the lyrics are so sweet, and I knew I would love the tune since listening to the nineteen second preview that was released by the band last week. I’ll be listening to this on repeat until my boys release their next single!

Four + Fireproof

On Monday morning, I was sitting in homeroom when my best friend sent me a text: “Their new album is called Four.” That was all I needed. I immediately pulled up One Direction’s Twitter page, saw the official tweet and Liam’s announcement tweet, and was overcome with excitement. A new album in November? Yes please. Fourth album titled Four? Cool. Free download of a new single? SO FREAKING AWESOME. As soon as I got home from school, I downloaded Fireproof and it was love at first listen.

Fireproof is subtler than many of One Direction’s songs. It’s art. Its beat makes me want to sway and move my hands to the rhythm. The lyrics are pretty and the vocals are on point. I LOVE this song. Unfortunately, the free download was only available for 24 hours, but it will probably release for the standard $1.29 soon. Four is set to release on November 17th and there’s already talk about a tour. According to Mirror, One Direction will team up with the magician Dynamo (who participated in 1D Day in Los Angeles last November) for the Four tour.

The album covers have been released, and both Four and Four (Deluxe Edition) are available for preorder. The standard album will have twelve songs, while the deluxe version will include four bonus tracks.

One Direction has released three albums in the past three years- Up All Night in 2011, Take Me Home in 2012, and Midnight Memories in 2013. Their fourth album Four will continue this pattern, as every album has been released in November. Based on the sound of Fireproof, I’m excited to see the new, more mature direction the band is taking. I think One Direction’s fourth album will appeal to a wider audience and be a little more artsy. But whatever it sounds like, I’m sure I’ll love it.

I can hardly wait until November 17th.
