Drag Me Down

Drag-me-down-One-directionIt’s been a long time since I’ve done a Song of the Moment post. But I’m finally back again with one, and to no one’s surprise (hopefully), my inspiration for this post is the new One Direction single.

Song: Drag Me Down
Artist: One Direction
Album: Drag Me Down – Single
Source: Bought on iTunes

Favorite Lyrics:
I’ve got fire for a heart
I’m not scared of the dark
You’ve never seen it look so easy
I got a river for a soul
And baby you’re a boat
Baby you’re my only reason

Drag Me Down is the first song One Direction has released since Zayn left the band earlier this year. But never fear, he gave his approval via Twitter:

Proud of my boys the new single is sick. Big love. 🙂 x

This song dropped just as I woke up the morning of my last day in Europe (the day I flew home). I listened to it on repeat in the airport and on both my flights. It’s catchy, has a great beat, and is a slightly different sound for One Direction: it’s a bit darker and more intense sounding than some of their other tunes. The lyrics are repetitive, but the boys switch up parts throughout so it’s never boring. Drag Me Down is unapologetic; I love it. And the guys look so happy in the cover art. Even better, the release was a complete surprise! The Drag Me Down music video was apparently shot a few days ago at the NASA Space Center in Houston, Texas. Needless to say, I am highly anticipating its premiere.

Honest

A new Song of the Moment!

Song: Honest
Artist: The Neighbourhood
Album: Amazing Spider-Man 2: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Source: iTunes

Favorite Lyrics:
I hope you find a way to be yourself someday,
In weakness or in strength,
Change can be amazing.
So I pray for the best, I pray for the best for you.
I wish you could be honest

I was scrolling through my Tumblr feed today when I saw a post with lyrics from this song that spoke to me. I searched the song on iTunes straight away and previewed it at least twenty times before listening to the whole song on YouTube ten more times. The chorus relates very well to a situation I’m dealing with right now and sums up some of my feelings regarding it. I haven’t listened to much by The Neighbourhood other than Sweater Weather, but I really like the band’s sound and lyrics. Now I want to see the movie and watch the scene this song is played in! (If it is featured in the movie.) Are there any other standout songs by The Neighbourhood that I should listen to?

Out Of The Woods

Song of the Moment

Song: Out Of The Woods
Artist: Taylor Swift
Album: 1989
SourceAvailable on iTunes, not actually purchased yet because I’m waiting for the physical copy of the deluxe album to release.

Favorite Lyrics:
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods?
Are we in the clear yet?
Are we in the clear yet?
Are we in the clear yet?
In the clear yet, good.

Remember when we couldn’t take the heat
I walked out, I said “I’m setting you free”
But the monsters turned out to be just trees

I was up super late last night (or should I say super early this morning) doing a seemingly endless amount of homework when I got the notification that this song had released. I then proceeded to listen to it on repeat for the next two hours and most of the today. I’ve purchased neither Shake It Off nor Out Of The Woods because I want to buy the deluxe edition of 1989 that comes with three bonus songs. Unfortunately, this version will only be sold in hard copies beginning October 27. Out Of The Woods, which is not Taylor’s newest single but simply an early track release from her upcoming album, is very different from any of Taylor’s other music. I was so surprised when I first heard it, but it quickly grew on me and now I’m absolutely in love. I am beyond thrilled to hear the rest of Taylor’s new album, especially because it seems like it’ll have quite the twist to it. Although Taylor said recently in an interview that 1989 is not as boy-centric as her previous albums, Out Of The Woods is rumored to be about her ex-beau Harry Styles. The song is already #1 in over 60 countries.

Steal My Girl

My new Song of the Moment… This one just released today!

Song: Steal My Girl
Artist: One Direction
Album: FOUR
Source: Bought on iTunes via FOUR (Deluxe Version) preorder

Favorite Lyrics:
She’s been my queen since we were sixteen
We want the same things, we dream the same dreams, alright, alright
I got it all cause she is the one
Her mom calls me love, her dad calls me son, alright, alright
I know, I know, I know for sure

I got up this morning for school and looked in the Purchased section of my iTunes library for One Direction’s newest single. I preordered their album and knew that Steal My Girl would download automatically today when it released. Alas, it didn’t release until I was in the middle of AP Psychology (not that I was checking or anything) and I listened to it for the first time after lunch. I kid you not, I almost cried in the middle of class when I heard it (we had a sub and were allowed to study). I wanted to dance and sing and laugh like a maniac because One Direction does that to me. I think the lyrics are so sweet, and I knew I would love the tune since listening to the nineteen second preview that was released by the band last week. I’ll be listening to this on repeat until my boys release their next single!

I’m starting a new meme, Song of the Moment, where I’ll post a quick blurb about my current favorite song(s). I am hoping that keeping record will help me to remember the better songs from my 1000+ song library. Here’s the first.

Song: Photograph
Artist: Ed Sheeran
Album:
Source: Bought on iTunes

Favorite Lyric: You can fit me
Inside the necklace you got when you were sixteen
Next to your heartbeat where I should be
Keep it deep within your soul

I’ve been listening to this song on repeat for the past thirteen hours. It’s sweet, makes me sway, and for some reason also makes me want to tear up. I discovered it by watching Madilyn Bailey’s a cappella version with Peter Hollens on YouTube. (Their version is also in iTunes.) Ed Sheeran’s voice shines in this meaningful song, and the combination of great lyrics and vocals makes for an absolutely beautiful song. It’s the kind of song that’s perfect for a drive home at night.
